TAMAR TROTTERS’ MONTHLY CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
INTRODUCTION It is my intention to write a brief monthly report to try and inform all members about what is happening in the Club. As always if anyone has any questions or suggestions please contact me or any other committee member. We are all here to help
NEW CLUBHOUSE We have identified a site at Saltash.net community school that would be an ideal location for our new Clubhouse, this site has now become “Plan A” and the Gallacher Way site, in Latchbrook, has become “Plan B”. We have already had a very positive meeting with the head of the school and she is very supportive of our proposals. Our next step is to meet with Cornwall County Council and obtain their permission. Our current thinking is to purchase a large portable type building that could be moved, extended, modified etc. as required. Watch this space!!
RACES
· The Magnificent 7, 20th July 2008. We have decided not to give ‘T’ shirts to runners this year as they are rarely seen in use after the event and they are a lot of hassle to organise and cost a lot to purchase. The entry fee will remain the same.
· Saltash Aquathlon, 31st May 2008. George and Sheila are organising this event this year, many thanks to them.
· Pillaton Run We have been asked to consider resurrecting the Pillaton Run which is a 5 mile loop starting and finishing at Pillaton. This will be a good event for us to get involved with, more details to follow.
· Saltash Half Marathon, 4th May 2008 Organisation for this years event is well underway. However, our existing Race Director, Bill Phillips, will not be available to organise this event in 2009 so we will need someone else to help Bill this year with a view to taking on the event in 2009, any volunteers?
· Relays The Club will pay the entry fee for any Club member who runs for the Tamar Trotters in relay races this summer
JUNIORS I am very keen to introduce a juniors training session once, or maybe twice, a week. Hopefully this new group of youngsters will eventually take part in cross-country or Sportshall events. I am sure that we can provide quality training for local children that are interested in running. The next step is to speak to the local schools and find a suitable venue and decide on the best time slot to hold these sessions. It would be a good idea for anyone interested in training juniors in the future to work towards becoming a level 2 coach. There is a Level 1 coaching course in St Austell on 26th April.
SOCIALS / TRIPS We are looking at several socials and trips
for the next 12 months. We will hold the usual favourites like the Summer Ball
(provisionally scheduled for 11th July) and the Christmas Party.
Kevin Stiff is again organising the ever popular Summer Madness run and he is
also offering a Club trip to Ascot in July. We are also investigating a Club
trip abroad for later in the year, Stephan Smith is looking into a trip to the
Milan Marathon in December. There will be two lad’s nights out and two trips /
socials for the ladies.
