Brickfields:  It is being developed rapidly around the rugby pitch.  The plan is to put up temporary lights within the next two weeks.  There is an opportunity to use these lights on track evenings but there may be a cost involved.  N Rowe is contacting Brandons to perhaps look at supplying a generator.  We are looking at having Wednesday’s as the general training night for all.  PAC’s cross country runners are training on Tuesdays and Thursdays and can perhaps benefit.

M Erith asked about PAC’s indoor training.  They have 45-50 on a Monday night but could perhaps accommodate more.  PAC and M Erith will liaise on this.

Operation of the floodlights would have a bearing on PAC’s training schedules.

Track and Field:  Open meeting on Wednesday 10 September 2003.  Help appreciated.

Coaching:  Running and walking course this week at Marjons, 8.45.  Information on its way.

Level 1 course planned for February in Exeter.

Coaching conference this Sunday at University of Exeter.  Closing date extended.  You can pay on the day.

Saltram 5k:  Thanks to those who came along and ran.  Thanks to all those who helped.  Should have been two marshals from each club.  Particular thanks to Tamar Trotters.  We made a lot of money.  If people are not prepared to come forward it makes this almost impossible to organise.  Good entry – 165.  Entry fee is virtually all profit.  Only thing to pay out is for St Johns.  We should have over £400 profit.  All prizes are off the back of the DML Half Marathon.

We have purchased radios, ear pieces and clips.  Available for use for all events.

Track and Field Composite Team:  S Endacott said PAC feel it is going nowhere; 12 months have now passed and there has been no progress.  The Forum needs to make a decision whether they want to go ahead with track and field or whether we are going ahead as two units.  The stumbling block is the UKA constraints on 1st/2nd claim.  Only three Forum clubs were represented at tonight’s meeting.

It was generally considered that the issue of identity had to be resolved.  It may also be an issue of loyalty.

PAC are looking at the growth and the club structure.  They are currently waiting on the Forum decision but if this does not come about they will move forward themselves.

M Erith suggested a City of Plymouth club where we could run as a team in bigger events.  This would be an umbrella organisation with individual clubs as individual branches.

A meeting is required as soon as possible with all clubs concerned with track and field.  S Endacott felt it was a Forum decision as a whole and not just those club interested in track and field.

S Rose felt it would be better to push this problem upwards.  UKA congress is held in November so this should be raised there.  P Ross suggested that we also raise cross country.

Forum Grand Prix:  Presentation will take place next month at the AGM.  Winners are to get vouchers from Frank Elford and P Ross suggested individual prizes from our profits.

P Ross proposed giving mementoes.  The proposal was amended to read that winners be given t shirts.  Carried.

F Elford suggested polo shirts with a small logo.

F Elford offered to continue sponsorship for this year’s Grand Prix.  Please remember to include Frank’s logo on all entry forms.

Hoe 10:  Meeting with Plymouth Albion to see what facilities they are willing to let us have.  Committee meetings at 7 pm before the main meeting.  The booking form has gone off to the Council.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Ron Hill Conference – Peter Furleigh has sent around details.  7.00 pm on 10 October 2003 at Exeter Harriers’ clubhouse.

Endurance meeting at Exeter on 20 October 2003, 7.30 – 9.00 pm.  Notes and agenda available for anyone interested.

B Phillips said Tamar Trotters donated £1,000 to St Lukes Hospice from profits from the Magnificent Seven.

B King asked whether we could bring back the shared club nights.  S Endacott suggested Brickfields on a Wednesday.  We will look at that as soon as the lights are in place.

B King said he occasionally organises a hash on a Sunday morning.  See DML website for information.

S Payne said Plymouth Harriers are changing the date of their 10k.  P Ross suggested he go to the endurance meeting when dates for next season will be known.

C Carpenter asked if there were any other cross country dates.  He will be advised if and when known.

K Reed thanked Plymouth Harriers for the cricket match.

He also thanked all runners in the Beacon Challenge.  88 finishers; results available.  P Ross said they did not have a very good strategy as they had an injury and the ambulance was despatched to the wrong place.  In light of this K Reed felt it would be useful for marshals to have basic training.

M Erith said the Deviock Bounder is on 12 October and Cornish Marathon on 16 November (new start!).

Cornwall wondered if they could hire the clock for 10 grand prix races with a discount.  P Ross suggested £200 for 10 races; they would have to collect and return.  K Reed asked about its reliability; P Ross will discuss with Dick Hughes.

A Smith asked if any clubs had information on the Westward League.  It was considered information was due mid September.

F Elford thanked everyone who turned up to Jeremiah’s Journey.  His trail run is coming up in three weeks’ time; no entries on the day.  Any help would be appreciated.  The Devon Off Road Championships will be included in the race.  Get club members to tick the box!!

P Ross felt that as Frank was sponsoring our Grand Prix series his race should be included from next year.

S Rose proposed that the Forum purchase a copy of the safety guide for Forum clubs.  Some clubs already have a copy which can be lent if required.

M Erith said after race returns should be sent to UKA advising them of injuries so they know what is going on in road races.

P Ross has entry forms for a charity run in Saltram Park, 8k over various terrain – 12 October.  Mistake on form with price.

P Ross said we have to control Forum equipment.  Need to have an order form and return list.  This was supported by all.

Pete Furleigh does a radio programme which goes out on Radio Devon at 5.45 pm on Fridays and on Saturday after the sports report.  He is always interested in any athletics items.  Feel free to ring him direct.  He records on a Thursday of the second week in the month.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

Monday 13 October 2003.  AGM same evening.
