MATTERS ARISING

Brickfields:  N Rowe is in discussion with the Council reference a timetable of when the lights will be put in.  They are trying to install the floodlights and relay the track at the same time.  Bookings in until the end of the month.

The general consensus was that if there were no temporary lights people won’t use Brickfields.

S Payne said at the last meeting N Rowe said he would seek sponsorship for the lights.  J Crockford will chase this up with Nigel.

If the lights have to be paid for, it was considered to be beneficial to all clubs to have shared training, say on a Tuesday.  Saturday mornings are still going ahead.

C Carpenter is concerned that the groundsmen have been kicked out of garages where they store a lot of their equipment.  Also, PAC were not expecting football posts to be up.

Coaching:  Running and Walking course completed.  Level 1 course planned for February in Exeter.  Coaching for Levels 3 and 4 courses to take place at the University of Bath.

Composite Team:  A lot of clubs have been written to by UKA with application form and guidelines enclosed.  We have got ‘til 24.10.03 to decide who will be included.  We will have to assume PAC’s name.  Names to K Reed within the week please.

The important thing to remember is that the Forum is here to develop any talented athletes.

UKA are now being pressured by the leagues.

K Reed said there may be financial commitment for composite member clubs; this may not necessarily be the case but clubs should be aware.

At this time we are only looking at track and field.

N Rowe will contact the Chairs of Forum clubs.

Secretary’s Report

§           Westpoint relays, 18.10.03, 2 pm start.

§           Endurance/Race Directors meeting – directed at road running – 20.10.03 at Exeter Harriers’ clubhouse 7.30-9 pm.  Anyone interested in road running is welcome to attend.  There will be an open forum for questions, ideas etc.

§           Fitness in Running and Walking Course – well attended by Cornwall clubs – East Cornwall Harriers and Tamar Trotters – only Devon club to attend was Erme Valley Harriers.  Disappointing since other clubs had indicated that they had members who wished to go and that the course is primarily aimed at road running.

§           Level 2 coaching course to be held in Plymouth on 6 & 7.3.04 with the practical day at Poole (date to be confirmed).  Applications to Bill Whistlecroft.

§           Coach course funding – two applications received to date.  Paul Wearne agreed at previous meeting to fund £45.  Application from Plymstock for funding two child protection policy courses for Dave Dane and Sandra Williams for 50% of courses = £25.  I have written to Colin Nunn to seek clarification as I was not aware that they had junior section; awaiting reply.

§           Devon Sports Awards nominations forms available.

§           Plymouth Albion are keen to host social events at Brickfields; they have numerous facilities.  If you are interested contact Sam Snowden on 565064.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

M Elliott asked if there was going to be any indoor training at Lipson.  J Crockford advised that DML had booked this, 6 pm on Wednesdays.  Coaching assistance would be appreciated.

C Carpenter said that M Erith is going down on Thursdays to Brickfields for cross country training.  PAC are training both indoors and outdoors most evenings and he can’t see why other clubs can’t join them.

B Phillips asked if the coaching fees scheme would be extended.  J Crockford said it was necessary to put in a proposal and other clubs would then vote on it.

F Elford thanked everyone for helping in the Autumn Trail.  705 entries.

N McClung advised that the Tavy 7 will be on 9.11.03.  Entry forms available - no entries on the day.  Improved signage this year.  J Crockford reminded them that Frank’s logo must be included on all entry forms for Grand Prix races.

M Erith said Deviock Bounder was a great success.  Hoping to run it again next year.

London Marathon entries have to be in fairly soon – do Forum clubs want a meeting to discuss training?  Most clubs felt this would be useful and ME suggested December, February/March and April.

K Reed advised that Nick Bristow is rekindling the Exeter to Plymouth run in aid of Children in Need.  Run will take place on 15th November – times to be confirmed.  Anyone interested let Keith know.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

10th November 2003.
