MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON 8TH NOVEMBER 2004
Present: N Rowe Chair; P Ross/K & G Reed
(EVH); M & J Elliott/F Jenkins (IS); D Dane (PRR); C Ede (DML); R
Warne/J McGhee (PH); S Nance/S Court (TT); K Bowles (Tav); D Hatch/D Cook
(Mhvn)
Apologies: J
Crockford; B Aloof; S Payne; C McGhee; C Bunting; B Phillips; M Erith;
S Rose; D Prescott; F Elford
Brickfields: Had meeting today.
Situation with overall development of site looks like Sport England
are digging their heels in to get the project finished by December 2005;
however, it cannot be finished until March 2006. Hopefully lobbying by the sporting community will impact on
this. If we do lose the funding, it is
debatable whether the community would fund the build programme. N Rowe will be asking the Chief Executive of
Plymouth City Council for a full enquiry if this does not happen. Priority is retexturing. Looks like there will be a shortfall from
the EARP fund. N Rowe said today
that Plymouth City Council owe it to athletics to make up the shortfall. We will endeavour to get some form of lights
there so people can train during the winter period.
Now had some income from PAC. Total income for track fees for the year was
£1,916 and expenditure to date £2,614 a loss of £698. We have not got in that figure the £300 we
are trying to get from the Navy. J
Crockford, N Rowe and P Ross will sit down and establish how come there was a
discrepancy on the figure we received from PAC.
Coaching: 15.11.04 at 7.30 pm at Windsor House please make sure that ever
coach within your club makes that meeting date. If people do not attend we need to ask ourselves how we can take
further the coaching development plan.
Composite Club: Application has gone forward to the AGM. There are a couple of changes regarding
officers. If the application is
successful by next month we will have to come up with a name and the kit for
the beginning of the season. K Reed
worried that other clubs wont buy the idea and then he does not know how they
will stand with UKA. Should get some
idea of the venues at the AGM.
South West
Counties Road Running Development: Nothing
further to report.
Hoe 10: Entry forms available.
Please take to any key races.
Brickfields booked. N Rowe
met with Albion. Paperwork raised for
road closures. Race limit of 600.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
D Hatch introduced Dave Cook who is doing a fitness
instructor course at YMCA.
K Reed said 16 on officials course on 4.10.04;
including a lot from Somerset and none from Cornwall. Disappointed with turn out.
K Reed has latest Grand Prix results. Tavy 7 next race.
J McGhee said C McGhee had asked for the date of the
launch party. N Rowe will advise.
R Warne advised that P Tabenor was reserve for England
Vets cross country championships.
D Dane advised that Plymstock are once again
supporting the Children in Need evening and will be on treadmills at Safeway
from 12 noon to 9 pm. Their junior
section has taken off again with 20+ youngsters.
F Jenkins advised that the IS Scenic Challenge will
be renamed to the Sam Penny Scenic Challenge in memory of Sam.
M Elliott said that IS are once again running a trip
to the Wyvern Christmas Cracker and places are available on the coach for £7
each. He congratulated P Ross on his
nomination.
N Rowe reported that yesterday K Reed, P Ross and
himself went to the South West Athletics meeting in Exeter. Trying to position ourselves and the likely
direction the new structure of athletics is going to be, particularly in the
South West. Jack Bugner, Project
Director under the Foster Report, is responsible for pulling all this
together. His talk may be on the
structure he is hoping to put there. We
all thought the South of England was one of the biggest thorns in UKAs side
but the North of England are digging their heels in. Midlands, North and South of England will have to go and the only
way they will remain in any form of name is from a competition point of view. There were a series of workshops, broken
down into track and field, officials, coaching and cross country. Attendance was pretty good from every county
involved in the SW hub. A lot of work
is to be done over the coming months.
If we are proactive enough we could get ourselves up and running with
this. It is a worthwhile exercise. N Rowe is involved in coaching workshop, and
there were some good ideas there.
P Ross was disappointed that there was no Cornwall
representative. He advised we are
leading the way and this is a chance for us to be involved.
If we do not drive it forward the millions of pounds
available will be off the table.
M Erith is planning to hold three marathon seminars
6.12.04, 7.2.05 and 31.3.05.
Beach training at Tregantle on 11.12.04, 10-12. £2.
All abilities. Any coaches who
can help would be welcome.
Cornish Marathon 21.11.04 contact Hilary
Clatworthy on 01579 362522.
Course measuring supposed to be a course set out
on the internet. Maurice Oat, retired
course measurer, putting something together in the spring time. Contact Maurice or Paul.
Club Development Workshop for athletics Sonia
Ellis coming on 15.12.04. Dependent on
numbers for venue. Need to apply to
come along.
All clubs should have development plans.
K Bowles advised Tavy 7 full.
Changes coming out for unaffiliated clubs.
UKA would not insure anyone not affiliated to the
Governing Body. This has now been
overcome and makes them associated members of SEAA.
SEAA are putting together a team to go round the
country discussing road running and the development of road running. P Ross offered to host a meeting for Devon.
13th December 2004.
