MATTERS ARISING

Brickfields:  The lighting standard for training is 100 luxe.  We need to ascertain whether we could get a sponsor to put lights there in the first instance.  We need to decide whether this is a worthwhile exercise.  N Rowe will undertake a costing exercise.

The final track inspection for certification will take place on Thursday.  Hopefully everything will go ok.  PCC’s intention is to go out to tender for the work on retexturing and floodlights.

There is a threat that Sport England will take £40m legacy funding away from UKA – this may have repercussions on the plans.

Composite Teams:  None of the clubs came back on this; the opportunity for 2004 has been missed.

Westpoint Relays:  It was disappointing that there was nobody from the Plymouth area taking part.

Endurance Race Directors’ Meeting:  Well attended.  We heard through the grapevine and local members that the Police will be charging for supporting events but a member of the Devon and Cornwall Police was there and he said the Police would continue to support events for free as long as the event was not of a commercial nature.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

M Erith asked if the Deviock Bounder on 10th October 2003 could be included in the Grand Prix Series in place of the Cornish Marathon.  Agreed.

M Erith has organised marathon seminars, 7.30 – 9.00 pm at Windsor House:

§           Planning Your Winter Preparation – Monday, 15th December 2003

§           Final Preparation and Taper – Monday, 23rd February 2004

§           Race Day – Before, During and After - Monday, 29th March 2004

Plymouth to Exeter run for Children in Need this Saturday.  There will be TV cameras at both ends.

There will be no meeting in April 2004 as the second Monday in the month is Easter Monday.

S Rose advised that Plymstock RR will be on treadmills at Safeway, Plymstock for Children in Need – 21st November.

J Crockford said there is no change to incoming and outgoing.  Bill for track outstanding.  Received cheque for £90 from PASC.  PASC has made available a sum of money for attendance at coaching courses and events etc.

Charlie Ede thanked Tavistock for yesterday’s race.

N McClung thanked everyone for coming along to their race.

M Erith said ECH are having a beach training session at Tregantle Beach on 21st December.  Coaches appreciated.

N Rowe

§           Advised the South West Athletics Cross Country Championships are on at Exeter on 7th December 2003.

§           There is a meeting on Devonport Regeneration Company shortly.  They have been approached by PA to put the sports hall back into the proposed plan.  N Rowe has gone back and said it would not be any good because changing facilities would be too far away.  We should know in about three weeks’ time.

§           A letter has been received from Bill Phillips applying for award of £200 for coaching for various members.  Following discussion it was agreed that this award be granted.

§           N Rowe requested an update of each club’s coaches and officials.

P Ross

§           Sir John Hunt Community College is having a sports hall day at their Southway Campus on 25th November involving their feeder schools.  Rob Wright is trying to do something for primary school athletics.  They are borrowing our kit to promote the event.  Help would be appreciated.  Rob is keen to progress this.

§           Hoe 10:  Things moving along nicely.  Entries already received.  Full support from Plymouth Albion and Council at Brickfields.  Assistance on the day needed.

§           Mike East is at Exeter tomorrow night for middle distance training at Exeter Arena – free of charge.

§           Letters have been sent to clubs re SEAA.  If they do not decentralise there won’t be any money left.  AAA and their relevant areas stand in the way of this.  We will probably end up as the South West.  There are 9 hubs which will relate to areas.

§           Concerns with signage at Tavistock yesterday – enjoyed the race though.

§           Burrator, Boxing Day – same format as previous years.  No prizes for fancy dress.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

8th December 2003.
