EAST CORNWALL
AND WEST DEVON ATHLETICS FORUM
MINUTES OF
MEETING HELD ON 9 MAY 2005
Present: N
Rowe (Chair); (Secretary); J Crockford (Treasurer); C Ede (DML); S Payne/J
McGhee/R Warne (PH); M&J Elliott/F Jenkins/B Aloof/G French (IS); K&G
Reed (EVH); C Carpenter/K Rogers/M Erith (PAC); (ECH); S Rose/D Dane
(Plstk RR); L Chatfield (Active Devon)
Apologies: P Ross; C McGhee; B Phillips; C Bunting; R Musgrave.
N Rowe welcomed Lance Chatfield, Athletics
Coach. Lance will be setting up a
programme in the near future which hopefully will help all clubs in the area.
Brickfields: Contractors on site. Turf
cutting ceremony tomorrow afternoon.
Letter sent to PCC re situation with hurdles being placed on lane 1 and
portaloo etc. C Carpenter said the
situation hardly hasn’t changed since last month’s report. He asked if there is a management
stakeholders meeting this week; N Rowe confirmed this meeting has been
postponed ‘til next week. Doesn’t
involve users, just management board.
Composite Club: K Reed said first fixture was on 24.4.05 at Bournemouth. Good day.
Unfortunately down on numbers.
Finished 5th out of 10 clubs; could have been vying for
second place if we had more team members.
Next fixture 29.5.05 at Yeovil.
Coach booked - £350. Spent money
on letters. Need clubs to encourage
athletes to come along to next fixture and to let K Reed have details.
K Reed asked if we should be thinking about road
racing – relays etc. He will look into
this. However, a lot of championships
accept competitors from 1st claim clubs only.
Coaching: Next meeting 20.6.05. Karen Eccles doing minutes. Plan to have Coaches Forum on 2.7.05 11.30
am – 3.00 pm at Brickfields where we will discuss warm up drills, sprints, throwing
and jumping. Please encourage coaches
to come along. Looking at conditioning
and mentoring workshops. M Erith asked
to approach the Forum about helping with funding for the hire of the track. N Rowe said he will need to sit down with
P Ross and J Crockford to make a projected budget forecast taking into
account composite club, coaching, training, equipment etc. N Rowe advised that ultimately the Coaching
Forum will be open to all sports, not just athletics. K Reed advised that coaches now have until August to register.
Half Marathon: Volunteers appreciated.
More road closures and diversions than in the past. Police struggling to meet our needs with
regulars and specials.
Police and
Potential Charging: Questionnaire issued to clubs
asking whether they have been asked to pay charges and to be sent back to Steve
Swanney, who is pro running. It appears
that Newton Abbot and Exeter are being charged despite it saying that if the
benefits are for charity, the matrix should sway in your favour and you should
not be charged.
Finance: J Crockford advised we have £7,911.06 in the bank plus £198.60
cash.
Officials: K Reed and P Ross held course with 17 attending. It was good that some attendees then helped out at the Great West Open the following day. K Reed happy to do one in Plymouth if there is sufficient interest.
Course measurers course confirmed. Two interested from this area.
AAA AGM/
Permit Secretaries’ Meeting: No surprise that the £2 levy
was agreed and will take effect from 1.10.05 (unless you have already put in
your permit application).
UKA road race medical return form for new races
needs to be completed for any recordable injuries. This links to the medical grading system – gold, silver and
bronze.
Rule change – 25000m; as a result of the mistake
that was made about 17 year olds doing marathon running – they need to be over
18. County road race report form
changed. Either race referee or county
observer has to complete form – not race organiser. Permit form updated to include risk assessments. Risk assessment needs to be retained for 3
years as it could be inspected any time during the interim. Any road race that is advertised as a
specific distance must be measured by a qualified course measurer. Need to show medical cover. Race referee not to be connected to the race
organisation – K Reed feels this should be opposed as it seems some clubs who
have 3 or 4 referees in their own clubs cannot use them for their own
purposes. This is not being applied to
track and field.
S Rose - Previous minutes refer to UKA not covering
athletes for training. S Rose has read
details and it does. N Rowe confirmed
that athletes are not covered for accidents whilst training.
C Carpenter – desperately need help with Young
Athletes competition.
S Payne asked when work will start at
Brickfields. N Rowe advised after
25.7.05.
K Reed – Ivybridge 10K now full. Maybe next year they will be able to extend
entry. Additional parking will be
available.
L Chatfield – Has now collected Forum sports hall
athletics equipment and it is available to clubs and schools via Lance.
P Ross has emailed a list of unpermitted races. It is likely these races are not
insured. Your members should not be
competing as club members.
Request from PAC regarding Young Athletes meeting. They have no sponsor this year which could
create a problem, particularly in respect of trophies (expected cost -
£1,000). C Carpenter asked the Forum if
they would be interested in making a contribution. S Payne proposed contributing £500. This was seconded by G French.
Should a sponsor come forward, this contribution will be withheld.
N Rowe asked for information on winter usage of
track. Please email thoughts to him
asap.
13 June 2005.
