MATTERS ARISING

Track:  Outdoor changing provision finished.  No more news on the management of the site.  Albion are proposing a new stand and it is quite possible it will encroach onto the track, which will have a bearing on long jump areas.  PAC (on behalf of the Forum) are in negotiations with Albion.

3K Series on the Track:  Thanks to everyone who supported the day, particularly the officials.  It was disappointing that some clubs have not supported it like they could have done.  Congratulations to all the prize winners.  Thanks to Frank Elford for his donation and support of the event.  KR will email results around.  PAC are planning open track and field meetings in May, June and July.  Officials would be appreciated.

Plymouth Hoe 10:  Thanks to all who supported the event which was a success.  Feedback is generally good.  Problem with car parking.  The Police arrived late.  The photographer on the day has made a donation to the Forum.  CB observed – an advert in one of the running magazines did not say there were no entries on the day and a runner came from Bristol (any details we submitted to publications were correct); finish funnel falls over – perhaps we can use a chain or barriers instead of tape (hurdles were suggested and PAC are happy to make these available); signage from the bottom car park to registration needs to be looked at.  BP suggested having an information point in the top car park.

England Athletics:  England Athletics (EA) take over governance from 1.4.06.  Most things are staying in place across this year.  There is opposition to EA in the form of ABAC in the main .  They are proposing they stay as AAA of England.  From 1.4.06 each club will be asked if they wish to submit anybody’s name for the Council for the SW which will be made up of 5 persons that will be voted on.  Each club gets a vote but you will need 2 other clubs to support that name.  One of the 5 persons will be elected chairman for the SW.  4 other representatives can be co-opted on to the Council.  There is a plan that there will be representation from all areas of the SW.  Currently we have an interim Council which has met twice – NR and PR serving from this area.  The 5 members of the new Council will first meet early in July and then co-opt the other 4 members.  They will seek to cover all aspects of our sport, as well as all the SW areas.  The chairman will sit on the Chair Council with the other 8 chairmen from the other regions.  There is a regional professional body headed up by Sonia Ellis.

Clubs who do not affiliate with EA will need to pay unaffiliated fees at races.

NR and PR are both willing to be put forward for the new Council.

Apparently we need to affiliate to SEAA for the first 3 months of 2007.

A membership scheme is being looked at.

Plymouth Half Marathon:   Help is still needed.

Coaches Forum:  Next meeting 17.3.06 in PAC clubhouse.

Endurance Training:  Going well with good attendance.

New Clubs:  The Devonshire and a fitness centre in Stoke have been on about forming their own clubs.  PR has passed on information about local clubs in the area.

Press Release:  NR has not yet spoken to Peter Ford.

Finance:  JC advised we currently have £8,691 in the bank and £170 cash.  Currently we have £300 profit for the Hoe 10 but more bills to be paid.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

C Bunting:  SW Region Inter-County Championships – Cornwall are hoping to share transport.  PR thinks Devon team are taking their own vehicles but will take to their meeting on Wednesday.

B Phillips:  Saltash ½ marathon forms available.

D Dane:  Sorry none of their juniors attended the 3K evening last week.  Last primary schools cross county event on 24.3.06 – 170 children in each event.

C Carpenter:  Spring warm up 2.4.06 for all age groups.

D Allen:  Started Bere Alston Trekkers two years ago.  Membership of 25.  Aim to raise money for local charities.  DA is level 2 coach.  They are keen to join the Forum to see what we can do for them and what they can do for us.

K Reed:

§           Ivybridge 10K forms available.

§           Devon League 30.4.06 at 11 am – we really need to make a success of this and as such need as much help as we can get and we need athletes to turn up.  This includes a vet category.  County Championships in May – need help on the day and need a meeting manager (Ivybridge 10K is on the same day).

§           Armada Team – first SW League Division 1 on 7.5.06 at Yeovil.  KR will get prices for coaches; PR thinks it is only fair that clubs involved pay towards their athletes.

§           Only four booked for coaching course on 25.3.06 – if there isn’t enough support this will be cancelled.  SE felt it would be beneficial if it could be held in Plymouth instead of Exeter.

§           First Aid course 26.3.06 at PAC.

P Ross:

§           Bath ½ marathon – now applied for a permit and has eventually paid all unaffiliated fees from last year.  Safety on the course is a grave concern.

§           Regional conference on all aspects of athletics – 6.5.06 at Exeter Golf and Country Club at 12 noon.

§           NR sent congratulations to Katherine Endacott, particularly at the Student Games, and Jo Harvey and Jessica Burns at this weekend’s event.

§           Congratulations to Jane and Graham Reed (and Paul Ross!) for awards from UKA.

§           This Forum has won an award as SW Partnership of the Year.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

10 April 2006 at Windsor House.
