CORNWALL AND WEST DEVON ATHLETIC FORUM HELD ON 13TH JANUARY 2003

Hoe 10: Paul
advised that entries were well up on this time last year. Correspondence
received from Council ref Road Closure. Meeting with Police 24/1 but still
awaiting confirmation from St John ambulance. The pre meeting had established
and listed all logistic requirements for on the day. Plan to mark course from
0730 with set up of Brickfields from 0800. For safety reasons it was proposed to
utilise a one way system from the car park at Brickfields exiting to the North.
Also plan to ask police to cone Raglan Road throughout to stop cars parking and
to alleviate the need for athletes to leave by the South exit from Brickfields.
Marshalls required for the day, Amanda Erith is acting as Chief Marshall so
names to her asap please (total 27 required).
Track and Field
Meeting: A pre meeting had been held. Keith Reed had been in touch with UK:A ref
a composite club and it has been agreed by UK:A that there was more time
available to make decisions. Any name could be used to register the composite
club. Leagues to target National Junior League, Southern Mens and Womens
Leagues. Paul Wearne to liaise with the relevant leagues. To be sorted at the
next meeting. Clubs need to buy into the costs of travel to attend the meetings.
Plan is to proceed with shared training evenings/days.
Sportshall: EVH
are holding another Sportshall introduction session with Junior Schools at
Ivybridge Community College 23 January 03 1600-1800. All are welcome to come
along and help/see what its all about. Nigel to liaise with schools reps in
the hope that some interest can be generated from Plymouth Schools.
Coaching: Leaders
Award Fitness in Running and Walking course to take place in Plymouth 15
February 2003, at Windsor House. Level 2 Coaching Course due to be held at
Eggbuckland School 8/9 February 2003. Both courses are booked through Bill
Whistlecroft. Currently the number of bookings are disappointing and both
courses are in danger of being cancelled. The Leaders award is ideal for those
that wish to become involved with coaching for Road Running.
Pertemps
Devon Road Race Series: Paul
R emphasised that as 3 events were in the Plymouth Area there was a good
opportunity for the local clubs and runners to feature well. Please advertise
with your clubs. Hoe 10 first in series.
Road
Running Officials: There
appears to be a growing interest with some clubs to register more experienced
race organisers as officials, this is easily done, contact Paul for more
details.
Peter
Elliot Seminar: Enjoyed
by those that attended. NB Bud Baldero will be holding a Marathon advice seminar
at Exeter arena on 27 January from 1800 2100.
Child
Protection Courses: Course
due to be held at Marjons 11 February cost £22 info and bookings to Active
Sports 01392-382219. Further courses to be held at Windsor House on 25 March and
30 September 6-30 9. 30pm. Mail to BmcKenna@marjon.ac.uk for more details. Note all clubs with
juniors and junior coaches need Child Protection Officers.

7: Entry
limit of 350 with NO entries on the day.
SEAA Cross
Country Championships: Bicton Park Saturday 25 January 1100.
Discussion took place on an appeal for funds letter
from Exmouth Harriers. It was agreed that each club would revue at club level
and not at Forum Level. Keith made an appeal for anyone who could help on the
day to contact him.
Press Officer: The
position of press officer for the Forum is still vacant. It was felt that with
the planned developments it would be beneficial to the Forum to have a Press
Officer. Please consider prior to the next meeting.
CD Brammall
Open Young Athletes Meeting: Date confirmed as 19 July at Brickfields.
Brickfields: Concern was
raised over whether the throws and jumps equipment and areas would be available
from 6 April. Athletes are currently leaving to train with Exeter as facilities
at Brickfields are not available. When do Plymouth Parkway finish using the
Pitch in the centre of the track, can they be re-located. Nigel to discuss with
Council. All facilities will need to be tried and tested prior to the County
Champs in May including the Pole Vault facility. Could the lights that are to be
erected for the ATP area be turned for use on the track, Nigel to ask. Plymouth
Albions lease for use of Brickfields has not yet been signed with further
discussions ongoing. Nigel also gave an update on the planned sportshall and
community facility which will incorporate changing facilities for athletics.
Plymouth Half Marathon: Mike
Erith congratulated the organising committee on becoming rated as the 15th
Road Race in the Runners World rankings. Mailshots will be sent out in the next
two weeks to all previous runners. Plan to target numerous races. After race
disco to be held on Plymouth Hoe Promenade in a Marquee. Race Launch 6 February.
Forms and Posters available. Will be using Championchip. Part of Fitness and
Heritage weekend Monday is Lord Mayors Day and the City Centre Mile Races.
Camel Canter: 23 March
Forms available.
Officials: Conference at
Exeter Arena 8 March covering issues to include Child Protection and Health and
Safety.
Keith is trying to
organise a H&S Workshop, possibly in Plymouth, attendance at H&S
workshops is mandatory for officials.
Officials course to be held at Exeter 22 March contact Keith for details.
DML RC
Valentines Disco 14 February at United Services Officers Club, Mount Wise. £5-00 to
include Buffet all welcome.
