MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON 14th DECEMBER 2004

welcomed along Hilary Clatworthy (ECH) and Mike Carpenter (Launceston RR)
Brickfields: Apologies were received from Louise Oates who was to have given a
presentation to the Forum on current situation at Brickfields. From
correspondence received from Chris C there appears to be a communication problem
between different departments and staff within PCC. Further correspondence
received from Mike E on lack of facilities and access to equipments available
to athletes for coaching sessions. Greatest concern on lack of toilet
facilites. Paul R to write to Louise O on subject. Floodlights – Sub Station –
Planning approval submitted expect trenching work to start early in new year.
Track retexturing likely to happen April/May 2005. Albion and PCC agreed
amendment to their lease – rubber crumb proposed to be installed at South end
of Brickfields – plans to be forwarded to Nigel R. Track inspection carried out
– Report to be with Council Depts for requirements to meet standards by end of
week – copy to Nigel R. Temp Lights – no further progress, to be hastened with
Council (NR). Council have declared that the sportshall will not be completed
by end 2005.
Chris C and Alan H presented their plans for a new
club house to stand on the site of current announcers hut. Club House will
incorporate announcers area, technical officials area, meeting area, food outlet, toilets etc. Plan
is to make the Clubhouse of a portable nature to be relocated to proposed new
position of track. It was agreed by attendees that there was a need for better
facilities alongside the track – Chris C to contact Nigel R to talk through the
proposal and circulate drawings.
Navy are willing to pay a usage fee for the
Brickfields to the Forum – invoice to be raised.
Agreed bookings for Forum of 1 hour Wednesdays and 2
hours Saturday Mornings, control of use to be put in place.
Coaching: See notes from Coaches meeting circulated with these minutes,
next meeting Monday 17th January 05 at Windsor House. Thanks to Mike
E for his efforts and to all attendees.
Beach Training session held at Whitsands was not
very well attended, probably due to other events being held on the same day.
Composite Club: Application for SW League
has been accepted, all clubs within the Forum group can be included. Pre
meeting held – name still to be agreed (needs to be sorted at next meeting) –
travel arrangements discussed and outline plan agreed. Team vests to be sorted
– Viga catologue circulated and preferred option now near agreement.
Meeting dates:
Bournemouth 24/4, Yeovil 29/5, Exeter July 3 (host
meeting), Yeovil 4/9, Cup competition Exeter 12/6.
South West
Counties Road Running Development: Next meeting 8 January 05
Hoe 10: Entries to date up on
previous years. Event will host Devon v Cornwall event. Team make up 10 men (6
to count) and 6 Ladies (4 to count). County reps still count as part of Club
Team. Complimentary entry to selected team members. Forum to provide a
perpetual trophy. Change of contact at Plymouth Albion, meeting planned for
next week. Advertising in running press now complete although Runners World are
promoting event for 27 Feb – PR to contact. Still to hear from St John all
other support groups have agreed to help. MARSHALLS REQUIRED FROM EACH
CLUB.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Congratulations to P Tabenor on his performance
representing England Vets at Cross Country.
Plymstock had a good day supporting Children in Need
although the Safeway store was also collecting within the shop.
Congratulations were passed to Paul R on his recent
award at the Plymouth Sports Personality of the Year event.
M Erith marathon seminars – first one well attended
others to follow on 7.2.05 and 31.3.05.
Club Development Workshop for athletics – Sonia
Ellis coming on 15.12.04. Dependent on
numbers for venue. Need to apply to
come along.
All clubs should have development plans and a
Welfare Officer.
K Bowles advised Tavy 7 went well and thanks to all
who supported. Colin B asked the outcome of Team Awards. Keith B was unsure but
would contact the Race Director to clarify.
SEAA are putting together a team to go round the
country discussing road running and the development of road running. P Ross offered to host a meeting for Devon.
No further info received to date.
Tamar Trotters (Bill Phillips) have now taken over
the organisation of the Saltash Half Marathon.
Colin B advised that the St Eval 10K will not be
held in future.
National XC entry Closing Date 3 Jan 05
County XC entry closing date 4 Jan 05 – County XC
Champs 16 Jan
Devon Schools XC Champs will be held at Staddiscombe
on Saturday 22 January 05 from 1045. Forum have been approached for assistance.

England Athletics has now been born – Peter
Radcliffe is heading up the introduction of the Foster recommendations across
the Country.

Association of British Athletic Clubs – each club in
UK has been targetted – general consensus of those that had seen the proposals
was that it appeared to be an elitist group and that given the current proposed
changes this was not the correct time for any more proposals.
St John Ambulance support: Discussion ensued on
levels of support and communication received from local St John Ambulance
Groups. Invite representative of St John to future meeting.
Boxing Day Training Run – Clubs were asked to advise
their members attending to park sensibly to avoid traffic problems.
