MINUTES OF EAST CORNWALL AND WEST DEVON ATHLETICS FORUM
HELD ON MONDAY 11th AUGUST 2003

Introduction: Paul R welcomed and
introduced Debbie Priscott, recently appointed P/T Athletics Development
Officer. Once her office is completed Debbie will be based at Ivybridge
Community College. Contact details will be circulated once they are known.
Brickfields: Sport England Funding now
agreed for the development of Brickfields.
Clubs requested to submit a list of their planned
usage for the winter. EVH will continue to use on Wednesdays. Other attending
clubs suggested that they will also use on Wednesdays. It was suggested that we
look at extending competition into the winter months. E Mail Nigel with planned
usage. PAC to make arrangements to
establish what facilities will be available.
Track and
field open meeting: Forum Open meeting to be held at Brickfields on 10 September which will
incorporate the Devon County AA 10K track championships – Road Running Clubs
were asked to encourage members along as a good turnout will be another selling
point for Brickfields. Timetable of events:

booked on course, minimum of 18 required to hold the course. Please encourage
your members who are interested to apply asap.

Saltram 5k: This years event will be
organised and run by the Forum with any monies made going to Forum funds. Help
on the day will be required from all clubs. Volunteers names to Paul Ross.
Colin B agreed to input results. Need approx 10 marshalls (2 per club) Agreed
on energy drinks and bars as awards. Prizes (wine) to be purchased.
Radios: 6 radios have been purchased
by the Forum, cost £255. They have a working radius of 3K on open territory.
Radios are now held in store to be called off, list produced for issue to
individuals. Awaiting supply of ear pieces and clips. Instructions for use of
radios will be produced. No foul or abusive language to be used when
transmitting. Will consider hiring out to other groups if approached.
Track and Field Composite Team: Sub committee planned for 7pm prior
to the next Forum Meeting 8 September.
Forum Grand
Prix – sponsored by Frank Elford Sports: Results and list of all winners circulated.
Presentation will take place at Forum AGM 13 October. Thanks were extended to
Frank Elford Sports for their sponsorship and Keith Reed for correlation of the
results. Frank to be approached ref
continued sponsorship of the series.
Agreed the following: 600 limit – entry fee £6 aff. £7 unaff. £2 extra on day.
Prize structure to be revisited.
Assess toilet facilities and provision of refreshments.
Plymouth 10K – Thanks to all those who took part-
disappointing entry that could have been affected by the very hot weather. Mike
E suggested an earlier start. Plan to have a wash up meeting and discuss moving
the date and/or holding the event in the evening.
Magnificent 7 – Thanks to all who took part – record
entry.
Tavy Relays – Thanks to all who attended, £200
donated to charity, particular thanks to Plymouth Harriers for letter received.
Suggested improvements could be made to change over area.

Boconnoc Race forms available.
Jeremiahs Journey, Cann Woods went well – some
problems encountered with runners coming back through the finish on to the course
Paul Ross advised that he had written to recently
held unpermitted events at Revelstoke, Portreeves Challenge and Bigbury Fun Run
in the hope that future races would become permitted. Replies received from
Potreeves and Bigbury – Portreeves are considering becoming permitted and
Bigbury will probably become a bona fide Fun Run.
Westpoint Relays will be held Saturday 18 October
and will be the SW Counties Junior Road Relay Championships (U13/U15/U17).
Entry forms circulated.
Ron Hill Seminar – Friday 10 October at Exeter Harriers Club House 7 – 9.30pm. Talk from Ron on his experiences and Q&A session. Other guests may be in attendance. Bar available.
Endurance Running/ Race Directors meeting – open to all with an interest in Road Running at Exeter Harriers Clubhouse Monday 20 October 7-30pm. Any proposed agenda items would be welcome. Agenda to be circulated soon.
