Dear All
Thank you to all of you who
attended the meeting on Tuesday 3rd July and the people who
contacted us because they were unable to be there. For the benefit of those who
were not there and perhaps to summarise for those who were, the committee feel
that you should understand the decisions that were taken and the reasons behind
them.
Earlier in the year, the
Rugby Club had indicated that they were looking to return to training their
senior sides on Tuesdays and Thursdays and over the last three months we have
examined and considered ten other options within the Saltash area. In recent
weeks we have again spoken to the Chairman of Saltash RFC who made it very
clear that to continue to train on Tuesdays and Thursdays was not an option
available to us.
The venue that was put
forward as the preferred option was after careful consideration but allows you
off road parking facilities and exclusivity of use; two important factors that
aren’t available to you at the Rugby Club throughout the year. It may not offer
everything that the Club desires but it does go a long way towards it.
The vote to move was carried
by a very significant majority but it is important that the major point is
understood. It was not about the change of training nights at the Rugby Club
but the imposition of those nights by a third party if we stayed. In this way
we continue to control our own future.
The other vote considered our
future and by an almost unanimous vote it was agreed that the best long term
option was to acquire a plot of land and to build our own clubhouse.
In closing we would like to
make one point clear:
The Rugby Club has made its
decision in the best interests of their future. Our decisions have been made
for exactly the same reasons – our decisions, our control, our future.
