NEXT EVENT - Sunday 8th June 2008 at Carn Brea

Timetable for next meeting

Dear All

Firstly the Armada team did well yesterday (25th May 2008), despite a depleted team. We actually finished 3rd behind Dorchester and Team Bath, this puts us in overall second position and in with a great chance of promotion.
I have attached the results for everyone to see. Thanks to all those who took part.

We now have the SW league Cup at Carn Brea on Sunday 8th June. This match is against all the Div 1 clubs and also some of the Division 2 ones.

A list of clubs are shown below.

Cornwall
Dorchester
Armada AF
Exeter Harriers
Mendip AC
N Devon
Newquay & Par
Newton Abbot
Poole R
S Devon
Taunton
Yeovil

The format for the cup is different with only one athlete permitted per event and no guests. This mean we have to careful who we take.

Therefore if you have athletes (or if you wish to take part yourself) then I need to know by this Friday latest. I have only arranged a minibus
from Ivybridge (17 seats) so we may have to think about additional transport. I think with a good team we could even win the overall cup,
but we are certainly in with a great chance of winning the Div 2 cup. The competition is usually of a very high standard so hopefully there
will be opportunities to set good performances before the Schools the following week.

Look forward to hearing from you all. Please feel free to pass on my contact details to whoever you need to.

Thanks

Track and Field Opportunities for Summer 2007

SOUTH WEST TRACK AND FIELD EVENTS CALENDAR 2008

SOUTH WEST LEAGUE PROGRAM A

Have you ever wanted to have a go at track and field ?

This Summer there are a number of opportunities for you to take part in Track and Field competition. The Armada Team has been set up to give everyone in the Armada forum clubs a chance to take part

The team competes in the South West league Division 2. This is a league for both juniors and seniors who compete together. There are 9 clubs in the division from all over the South West. The level of competition is good but it is a very friendly league which welcomes newcomers and those not used to track and field competitions.

The Armada Forum have contributed £1000 to the costs of taking part in the league so costs for each club are small.

The Venues and dates for this season are as follows:

20nd April 2008

25th May 2008

6th July 2008

7th Sept 2008

Plymouth

Yeovil

Braunton

Yeovil

Prog B

There is also a cup match at Carn Brae on 8th June which is combined with Division 1.

As you can see there are two programmes A and B. These are attached to this document. All athletes are issued with a number in Div 2 at the start of season which is kept for the season. We therefore have to register with the league prior to the first match if your members may take part. Names can still be added on the day.

We will be having a coach for the fixtures at Braunton and Yeovil.  There is usually a good atmosphere on the trips and thanks to the forum it is a cheap day out.

We welcome parents and supporters as well as athletes. As part of the league administration we have to provide officials in the field events. We do not have too many qualified officials in the Forum clubs but willing helpers can be used. It would be good to get some more qualified officials and there is a course being run at Exeter on March 15th See your club secretary or coach for details.

It is not just about juniors however, I am sure that all the clubs have within their ranks some seniors who have track and field talents if only they tried. They just need to be encouraged to have a go.

It would be fantastic if we could get a vibrant track and field team from the area. Come and give it a go. As the first event is at Plymouth we hope to get a really good turn out.

This season, in addition to the Armada team, an agreement has been made with two of the leagues which Plymouth AC take part in, to allow members of Erme Valley Harriers, Tavistock AC , Plymstock RR and Plymouth Harriers to represent Plymouth AC. This is further opportunity for talented juniors and seniors to get even better competition.

The dates of these meetings are as follows.

Southern Mens League (U17 and Seniors) -  Male only

3th May, 7 th June, 28 th June, 12 th July at Plymouth, 2nd August

UKA Young Athletes league (open to U-13 up to U17 male and female)

4th May, 18th May, 1st June, 22 nd June ,20th July

We are currently discussing travel costs with Plymouth AC and vests will be loaned. Please see which meetings or dates may interest you,

Obviously we would like you to prioritise the SW league but it is up to you.

If anyone is interested in taking part in these additional meetings or you need further details, please contact Keith Reed on 01752 893573 or speak to your coach.
